Vic Fedeli said: “They just raised the price of gasoline 4.3 cents a litre”
Fact: Any costs associated with fighting climate change are borne by fuel distributors who decide how and if the costs are passed on to consumers. The government has been upfront about these potential costs – including gas prices – as well as the clear benefits of fighting climate change.
But perhaps MPP Fedeli clearly needs a lesson on how those gas prices are determined.
The majority of the price paid at the pump reflects the cost of crude oil (see below). In 2016, this was 35% - 35.1 cents out of a 100.5 cents/litre (last year’s average price in Ontario).
Vic Fedeli said: “[they’re] continuing to fire nurses - that’s what they have done in the past”
FACT: the Conservatives have consistently been wrong on this. Since taking office in 2003, more than 26,000 new nurses – including 11,000 registered nurses – are now working in Ontario. And in 2016, the number of nurses employed in nursing in Ontario increased for the twelfth consecutive year. This is a clear, consistent trend line and demonstrates our unparalleled commitment to health care in Ontario.
Let’s not forget that Vic Fedeli and his fellow Conservatives are also the ones who campaigned on firing 100,000 workers, which included health care professionals like nurses.
