Patrick Brown claimed: “We’re not graduating young people for the jobs that exist”
Fact: Our budget included funding to launch the new Career Kick-Start Strategy, which is expected to create 40,000 new work-related opportunities for students and recent graduates, giving them the experience they need to help land a good job. Patrick Brown voted against it.
Fact: Patrick Brown also voted against giving free university and college tuition to students from middle and low income families.
Patrick Brown claimed: “Right now the government is not sharing the contracts with us.”
Fact: For the umpteenth time, the contracts are already public on the IESO’s website. Here is the link.
Patrick Brown claimed: “We’ve given away six billion dollars in surplus generation” and “she’s giving free electricity to Michigan, Pennsylvania, Ohio and New York because they’re her friends.”
Fact: The last time the provincial Conservatives were in power, they spent $900 million importing electricity over two years just to keep the lights on. When we came into office, we inherited their dirty, unreliable electricity system and cleaned it up. Now, thanks to those necessary investments, Ontario families and businesses know the lights will go on and stay on when they need them to. Given our position of strength in terms, Ontario is a net exporter now, benefitting ratepayers to the tune of $230 million in 2015 (as estimated by the Independent Electricity System Operator).
Patrick Brown claimed: “According to the auditor general we’re seeing performance – um – no performance management no comparisons no competency on spending that 160 billion. In some cases we saw over payments of 35%.”
Fact: The AFP model we implemented has saved the province $6.6 billion and independent 3rd party organizations have looked at our infrastructure procurement model and found that 96% of projects were completed on budget. The Auditor General also recognized this in her report.
Patrick Brown claimed: “And yet we got rid of shop class from most high schools.”
Fact: 183 schools in Ontario have shop class including in Patrick Brown’s own community, like Barrie ÉS Roméo Dallaire, Barrie North CI and Innisdale SS.
Patrick Brown claimed: “Right now Ontario has the largest difference between general unemployment and youth employment…We’re tied with Nova Scotia for that – that number.”
Fact: Last month 24,000 youth jobs were created in Ontario. That’s more new jobs for young people than all other provinces combined.
