Ford Claimed: On the foreign homebuyer’s tax: “I would leave it up to the market. I think its stifles people, I think it really kills the market.”
Fact: Ontario’s Fair Housing Plan included 16 comprehensive measures to make housing more affordable for homebuyers and renters, while bringing stability to the real estate market and protecting the investment of homeowners. One of these measures was the foreign homebuyer’ tax (Non-Resident Speculation Tax).

Fact: The Canadian Centre for Policy Alternatives released an analysis today that concluded:
“Freezing the minimum wage and offering a tax cut in its place would not only reduce low-wage workers’ direct income, it would also reduce the amount of revenue that the province has to pay for the public services that they need to rely on: like public education, subsidized child care, and public transit.
This is simply a bad trade-off for low-income Ontarians. And it’s an approach that would create a host of other problems.”
