Ford claimed: “two separate school boards, so we got to respect that, but they're buying the same things. They're all buying paper, they're all buying pencils. They're all buying vehicles. So we have to share the synergies and make sure on the procurement side that we drive those efficiencies”
Fact: School boards in Ontario already have joint competitive procurement.
In fact on page 615 of the recent Auditor General’s report, she praised the current process:
“On a positive note, school boards have been increasing their use of group purchasing arrangements to acquire goods and services, which should result in cost savings. For instance, we noted that the value of school board purchases acquired through supplier agreements negotiated by the Ontario Education Collaborative Marketplace increased from $10 million in 2010 to $112 million. By December 2016, 71 of the 72 school boards in Ontario were participating in this group purchasing plan.”
Ford claimed: “And a lot of parents need to be consulted across the province along with the teachers”
Fact: 4,000 parents were consulted for Ontario’s Health and Physical Education curriculum - the widest consultation in Ontario’s history.
Fact: Ontario’s Health and Physical Education was written by parents, teachers, experts and academics – not by politicians.
Ford claimed: “Right now, the only issue I have with alcohol is that they’ve picked certain retailers and they haven’t opened [it] up to everyone”
Fact: Retailers competitively bid on the chance to sell beer and wine.
Ford claimed: “you have the highest hydro rates in North America”
Fact: As you can see from the below chart, electricity rates in Ontario are much lower than other North American jurisdictions.
Ford claimed: “making sure we put money back in their pocket instead of the government's pocket”
Fact: An independent economist found that Doug Ford’s plan would take almost $1,500 out of people’s pockets.
Ford claimed: “we have to make Ontario prosperous again”
Fact: Ontario has led the G7 in economic growth for the past 3 years.
